What you need to know about the Comoros

First of all, welcome to all of you! 
If you are here, it is because you necessarily have an interest in the destination "Comoros".
With its beaches, its fauna and flora, its culture, its welcoming population... this little paradise has everything to seduce you. 
But what do you know about this adorable archipelago?




  • The Comoros:
Officially named the Union of the Comoros, the Comoros become independent in 1975 (on 6 July 1975).
In 2011, Mayotte, one of the islands of the archipelago, became the 101st French department.


  • Location of the Comoros:
Located in the Indian Ocean, the Comoros archipelago is an island and federal state found in the northwest of Madagascar and north of the Mozambique Canal.
The Comoros are composed of 4 islands: Grande Comore, Mohéli, Mayotte & Anjouan (otherwise called: Ngazidja, Mwali, Maoré & Ndzouani).


  • The climate:
The Comoros enjoys a tropical maritime climate. Temperatures range from 23 degrees to 33 degrees throughout the year.
The average sea water temperature is 25°C.
The best time to visit the Comoros remains from June to October. Despite the rain showers, this remains the sunniest period of the year.


  • Religions in the Comoros:
The official religion in the Comoros is Islam. The Comoros are very observant and are practically all Muslims (mostly Sunni). However, other religions are present in the Comoros.


  • What you need to know:
The capital of the Comoros is Moroni, a city located in the Greater Comoros.
The currency is the Comorian franc (for information, 1 euro = 500 kmf).
The current president of the Comoros is Mr Azali ASSOUMANI since 2016.
Comoros has 766,654 inhabitants and the languages spoken are:
- the Comorian,
- French,
- Arabic,
- English.
